Online Safety/Protecting Student Privacy Course

Online Safety/Protecting Student Privacy is a 5 week Online MOODLE Course for educators who want to discover methods of protecting student privacy while using educational resources. You will explore current privacy laws, EPSB policy on sharing student data, resources on student privacy, and best practices or keeping information safe.

Every assignment for this course is posted in MOODLE at http://moodle.epsb.com and all correspondence is via email and the forum posts in MOODLE. Participants should be prepared to devote a minimum of two to three hours per week to MOODLE assignments. Internet access from home and a working laptop/desktop are required for this class. Participants will receive 15 CLUs and Tech Points for this class.  This course will begin May 7, 2018 and continue through May June 8, 2018. All printable assignments for the course are due Monday, June 11, 2016 to the Central Office by 4:00. Assignments received late will not receive full credit.

SMART Notebook 16 MOODLE Course, Part II

SMART Notebook is a 4 week online MOODLE course for teachers that want to learn more about what resources SMART Notebook 16 has to offer. 

There is no face to face component to this course. Everything is conducted via email and the EPSB MOODLE site at http://moodle.epsb.com. Participants should be prepared to devote a minimum of four hours per week to Internet work. Internet access/Wi-Fi from home is a requirement for this class. Participants will receive 16 CLUs and Tech Points for this class. In addition, you will also get a SMART Notebook 16 license to use over the next school year if you do not currently have one from the first course. This course will begin September 12, 2016 and continue until October 7, 2016. All printable or digital assignments should be sent to Connie Guillory at the school board office or to connie.guillory@epsb.com. Each assignment is due the week it is posted including the comments to classmates’ in the forum section of MOODLE. Communication and sharing of ideas is a great way to share ideas and learn from one another. All assignments must be completed and submitted no later than Thursday, October 13, 2016.

SMART Notebook 16 MOODLE Course

SMART Notebook is a 3 week online MOODLE course for teachers that want to learn more about what resources SMART Notebook 16 has to offer. For the purpose of this course you will need to have an iPad (you can check one from the Technology Department) and you will need to pick up an iTunes gift card from me in order to download the SMART Notebook app, Maestro.

There is no face to face component to this course. Everything is conducted via email and the EPSB MOODLE site at http://moodle.epsb.com. Participants should be prepared to devote a minimum of three hours per week to Internet work. Internet access/Wi-Fi from home is a requirement for this class. Participants will receive 9 CLUs and Tech Points for this class. In addition, you will also get a SMART Notebook 16 license to use over the next school year. This course will begin July 18, 2016 and continue until August 5, 2016. All printable or digital assignments should be sent to Connie Guillory at the school board office or to connie.guillory@epsb.com. Each assignment is due the week it is posted including the comments to classmates’ in the forum section of MOODLE. In classrooms, on mobile devices, and at home, BrainPOP engages students through animated movies, learning games, interactive quizzes, primary source activities, and more. Brain Pop offerings are developed with a fundamental multimedia principle in mind: that information is more effectively processed when presented in words, pictures and sound than when presented in words alone (Mayer, 2005).

All resources are supported by BrainPOP Educators, which offers professional development and an array of lesson plans, webinars, video tutorials, graphic organizers and a rich curriculum calendar.

Ideal for both group and one-on-one settings, BrainPOP is used in numerous ways, from introducing a new lesson or topic to illustrating complex subject matter to reviewing before a test. Content is carefully mapped to the Common Core and aligned to other academic standards.  

This is three week online course conducted entirely via the MOODLE site that will begin January 25, 2016- February 12, 2016. This course is a pilot to gather your input on the district’s free, trial version of Brain Pop. You will have complete access to the Brain Pop site for the duration of this course only. All posted assignments and forum assignments will be due online in the week they are assigned unless you make other arrangements with the instructor since dialogue is a vital part to the success of this online class. Any printable assignments are due to the Central Office by February 17, 2015. Internet Access is required for this course.

No stipend will be paid but 12 CLUs and 12 technology points will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.

Discovering World Book

We are living in a digital world and this course will provide information and resources that you and your students can utilize. Digital learning boosts students’ achievement, engagement and is vital to the modernization of school curriculums and long term success. The next generation classroom allows everyone to thrive on devices that create a richer learning experience. World Book Online is a suite of online research tools that includes encyclopedia articles, primary source collections, educator tools, student activities, pictures, audio, and video, complemented by current periodicals and related websites. Evangeline Parish utilizes REAP funds to purchase World Book online for all classrooms. This is a five week online course conducted entirely via the MOODLE site that will begin January 4, 2016 and continue through February 5, 2016. This five week course will provide professional development on using various resources offered through World Book. All posted assignments and forum assignments will be due online in the week they are assigned unless you make other arrangements with the instructor since dialogue is a vital part to the success of this online class. Any printable assignments are due to the Central Office by February 17, 2016 by 4 o’clock. Internet Access from home is required for this course. No stipend will be paid but 15 CLUs and 15 technology points will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.

Digital Classrooms: Using Apps & Online Resources for Every Classroom Part II

We are living in a digital world and this course will provide information and resources for websites, apps and software that you can use in your classroom with students. Digital learning boosts students’ achievement, engagement and is vital to the modernization of school curriculums and long term success. The next generation classroom allows everyone to thrive on devices and apps that create a richer learning experience.

Technology is pointless if it doesn’t make our lives easier. In this 6 week online course, you will learn about time saving digital resources that can make you daily workload easier.

This is a four week online course conducted entirely via the MOODLE site that will begin September 28, 2015 and continue through October 23, 2015. This four week course will provide professional development on using various digital resources. All posted assignments (forum assignments) will be due online in the week they are assigned unless you make other arrangements with the instructor since dialogue is a vital part to the success of this online class. Any printable assignments are due to the Central Office by October 30, 2015 by 4 o’clock. Internet Access from home is required for this course as all assignments must be completed outside of school hours.

No stipend will be paid but 16 CLUs and 16 technology points will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.

Web 2.0 Tools for ELA Teachers

Web 2.0 Tools for ELA Teachers is the next generation of the Internet where the content of the web is created or edited by end-users (either individually or collaboratively) rather than those few geeky computer nerds. Further, these sites often allow collaboration, sharing, and assimilation to bring about exchanges of ideas from many different perspectives in the form of text, photos, videos, and /or other multimedia components. This is a five week online course conducted entirely via the MOODLE that will begin October 1, 2012 and continue through November 2, 2012. This five week course will provide professional development on using Animoto, Big Huge Labs, Wordle, Mixbook and Voki. All printable assignments will be due to the Central Office by November 8, 2012 by 4 o'clock. Internet Access is required for this course. No stipend will be paid but CLUs and tech points will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
