Getting Acquainted with Discovery Education
We are living in a digital world and this course will provide information and resources for you and your students can utilize. Digital learning boosts students’ achievement, engagement and is vital to the modernization of school curriculums and long term success. The next generation classroom allows everyone to thrive on devices that create a richer learning experience.
Discovery Education Streaming Plus is an online multimedia service that simultaneously excites and engages students while providing educators with instructional support to effectively implement their curriculum in all content areas, from core academic disciplines to Health, Visual and Performing Arts, and World Languages. In this course, you will explore how Discovery Education Streaming Plus provides concrete tools and practical resources that empower educators with instructional strategies for digital content, along with model lessons and assessments aligned to standards. By the end of the course, you will be able to
- Identify several pathways for locating resources within Discovery Education
- Modify SOS strategies for students and content
- Analyze the use of resources in teacher and student boards
- Build and/or assign an instructional board
This course will be part one in a two part series. Technology is pointless if it doesn’t make our lives easier. In this 4 week online course, you will learn about time saving digital resources that can make you daily workload easier.
This is a four week online course conducted entirely via the MOODLE site that will begin November 2, 2015 and continue through December 4, 2015. This four week course will provide professional development on using various resources Discovery Education has to offer. All posted assignments (forum assignments) will be due online in the week they are assigned unless you make other arrangements with the instructor since dialogue is a vital part to the success of this online class. Any printable assignments are due to the Central Office by December 10, 2015 by 4 o’clock. Internet Access is required for this course. You can check out an iPad to use for this course but the iPad must be returned to Evangeline Parish School Board, Attention: Connie Guillory by December 10, 2015.
No stipend will be paid but 12 CLUs and 12 technology points will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
